Quran & Holy Books

“ We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)” – Quran15: 9

Being a wise Muslim is being an informed and an educated Muslim. It is crucial to study all aspects of one’s religion in order to be able to follow it adequately as well as be able to defend it when faced with questions.

The matter of heaven and hell is something that cannot be ignored. In a country like Canada we are exposed to many religions and cultures that are often contradicting to each other. Most claim to have a way to heaven and warn from the path to hell. As individuals, we cannot afford to make the wrong decision. After all, it is only a “one chance” deal.

In the next few paragraphs we would like to walk you through some aspects of Islam and Quran so that you are able to make an informed decision of which path to choose. The information will be supported by references directly from the Quran. It is crucial that you read this objectively and judge without prejudice. This is a matter of eternal life and death

The Holy Books

  • The Quran spoke about a number of Holy books that were seldom recognized by the experts.
  • “We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)” Quran 15: 9 Many interpret the word “Message” here as only referencing the Quran, but the Arabic origin of the verse references the books sent by God’s prophets; meaning it refers to other Holy Books.
  • The question is; why is there an assumption that the Holy Books have been tampered with? Would God change or learn from experiences? Is the Holy God not perfect? Would he not be able to guard every word He speaks?
  • Another reference to the word “Message” is found in Quran 21:105; “Before this We wrote in the Psalms, after the Message (given to Musa “ Moses”): My servants, the righteous, shall inherit the earth.”
  • This verse clearly speaks about the Message to Moses; not the Quran.
  • A Muslim is required to read these books as this is God’s word. He sent it and He guards it.
  • Quran 4:136 speaks about the need for a Muslim to read the earlier books; “O ye who believe! believe in Allah and His Messenger and the scripture which He hath sent to His Messenger and the scripture which He sent to those before (him). Any who denieth Allah, His angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Day of Judgment, hath gone far, far astray.”

What does the Quran say about the Bible?

  • Quran 42: 15 “Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and stand steadfast as thou art commanded, nor follow thou their vain desires; but say: “I believe in the Book which Allah (God) has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah (God) is our Lord and your Lord: for us (is the responsibility for) our deeds, and for you for your deeds, there is no contention between us and you. Allah(God) will bring us together, and to Him is (our) final goal.”
  • The main point here is that the prophet Mohamed believed in the Bible and believed every prophet that came before him.

What does the Quran say about the Torah?

  • Quran 10: 94 “If thou wert in doubt as to what We have revealed unto thee, then ask those who have been reading the Book from before thee: the Truth hath indeed come to thee from thy Lord: so be in no wise of those in doubt.”
  • Here we see that when the prophet Mohamed was not sure that the Quran was the true word of God, he was commanded to go to back to the “Book from before” i.e. the Bible. This indicates that the Bible had kept its integrity and truthfulness at the time that the Quran was written.
  • The question is, since the Bible hasn’t changed since this point in history and until today’s date, why would Muslims today not believe in the Bible or study it then?

There are many other verses in the Quran about the truthfulness of the Bible and the Torah. There is a need for the Muslim to study the Bible and the Torah in depth in order to better understand his/ her religion to its fullest.

Quran 6: 89- 90 These were the men to whom We gave the Book, and Authority, and Prophethood: if these (their descendants) reject them, behold! We shall entrust their charge to a new People who reject them not.

Quran 28: 43, 48 ,52 43 We did reveal to Musa the Book after We had destroyed the earlier generations, (to give) Insight to men, and Guidance and Mercy, that they might receive admonition.
48 But (now), when the Truth has come to them from Ourselves, they say, “Why are not (Signs) sent to him, like those which were sent to Musa?” Do they not then reject (the Signs) which were formerly sent to Musa? They say: “Two kinds of sorcery, each assisting the other!” And they say: “For us, we reject all (such things)!”
52 Those to whom We sent the Book before this, they do believe in this (Revelation)

Quran 23: 49, 50 49 And We gave Musa the Book, in order that they might receive guidance.
50 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs.”

Quran 2:253 Those Messengers We endowed with gifts, some above others: to one of them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour); to ‘Isa, [Jesus] the son of Maryam,[Mary] We gave Clear (Signs), and strengthened him with the holy spirit. If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not have fought among each other, after Clear (Signs) had come to them but they (chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If Allah had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah fulfills His plan.
